When I Asked God (Psalm 8)
Oh Lord, how wonderful
is your name!
You have set your glory above the sky.
When I think of the heavens, and the stars, and all you made,
When I think of your handiwork, what am I?
What am I, that you should know me?
Who am I, that you should see me?
Yet you have given me honor and glory.
You have put all things beneath my feet.
Refrain: When I asked God for faith, He sent his Spirit.
When I asked God for hope, He made life new.
When I asked God for life, He sent His only Son.
When I asked God for joy, He gave me you.
You have given me everything of your hands.
And made me a little lower than the angels.
You have given me the sky, and the sea, and land.
In all the earth, how wonderful is your name!
Refrain: When I asked God for faith, He sent his Spirit.
When I asked God for hope, He made life new.
When I asked God for life, He sent His only Son.
When I asked God for joy, He gave me you.
Oh Lord, how wonderful is your name!

From the Author:
I was inspired to write this song for the wedding of 2 friends, years ago. They
knew I wrote music, and asked if I could write something for their wedding. (I
was the maid of honor AND the cantor.) Like any good church musician, I opened
up my Bible to the Psalms for inspiration. The song pretty much wrote itself
once I chose Psalm 8. I wrote it on guitar, but have it scored out for piano as
well.
I have sung it at a number of family and friends' weddings since then, feeling
blessed to have written a wedding song that is prayerful but not too sugary
sweet.
Thank you again for choosing my song. My family, musical director,
and fellow musicians will be thrilled.
