Midnight comes quickly, my Teacher in chains
Up to the slaughter, He walks as a lamb
Fear overtakes me, and in my moment of truth
Three times I curse, "I never knew this man"

Jesus has heard me, and He looks into my eyes
I said I would die before I'd dare to flee
Now with the sinners will He be judged
But hanging from that cross is where I should be

Passion has failed me, strength has abandoned
I have denied my Maker and Friend
Burdens surround me, my tears overwhelm
The Lord of the heavens, I would not defend

The earth falls silent, the Lord rests in the cave
But early that morning the stone was rolled away
Joy embraces me, what wonderful news
