High on Mount Carmel
1. High on Mount Carmel two altars stand;
gathered together are the people of the land. For Elijah and the prophets of
Baal are on hand to call down a heavenly fire.
Chorus: Call down the fire! Call down the fire! Now let the contest begin. Call
down the fire! Call down the fire! And we'll follow whichever God wins.
2. Elijah speaks to the prophets of Baal, four hundred fifty prophets in all:
"If your God is real, let him answer your call and send down a heavenly fire."
Chorus: They called down the fire, called down the fire, but no one answered
them at all. They called down the fire, called down the fire, but no one heeded
their call.
3. To the altar of the Lord Elijah came; "troubler of Israel," that was his
name. A faith in the true God, that his only claim as he called down a heavenly
fire.
Chorus: He called down the fire, called downt the fire, and the prophets of Baal
were doomed. For when he called down the fire, called down the fire, the very
stones were consumed.
4. Centuries later, an empty tomb; disheartened disciples in an upper room.
Broken bewildered, and filled with gloom -- til He touched them with heavenly
fire.
Chorus: Tongues of fire, heavenly fire that set their hearts aflame. Tongue of
fire, pentecostal fire -- and the world has never been the same.
5. Still today, Lord, we need that fire; still to a faith like Elijah's we
aspire. Still a sign of your power we desire, so send down a heavenly fire.
Chorus: We call down the fire, we call down the fire; send us a sign from above.
We call down the fire, we call down the fire; set us aflame with your love.
