How sweet the blood and faith of one so strong
Whose righteous life was but a thankful song.
Though spiteful scoffers readied tongues of fire,
He prayed and worshipped Christ, his true desire.

They led him out with chains and skin rubbed raw,
Yet through his pain, the Prince of Peace he saw;
For though the flames did lick and people jeered,
He did not fear for God of heaven neared,

Though faced with death, he bowed is head in prayer,
For with the Lord these trials he could bare.
With eyes toward heaven, he proclaimed his love;
Angelic peace descended like a dove.

My eyes are ever on my blessed Lord,
For him I’ll fight, his Word is now my sword;
I’ll praise his name with every breath I take,
And hymns of tribute every morn’ I wake.
