I looked upon the arrogant,
The proud without a care.
Their hearts are turned away from you,
And violence they wear.

They speak against you, Lord, and yet
They’ve wealth and strength and power.
Why do you let them triumph now?
Come, Lord, this is the hour!

In vain, then, have I kept your laws
And lived a righteous life?
For I am weak and sick and poor.
Each day brings only strife.

But when within your temple, Lord,
I understand aright.
Their path is dark and leads to death,
Mine to eternal life.
